Newsletter from Alison who is 'off the grid' in Scotland!
Hello,
New month, new email! It’s great now that the days are getting longer and we’ve had enough sunshine to start tempting us outdoors again – of course, many of you haven’t stopped going out through the winter anyway!
This email is just a quick update primarily about three things.
- If you haven’t noted the date for the Trivets – Wednesday 2 July, based at Dalston Village Hall, near Carlisle – please put it on your calendar now. The details are on the blog and places are limited so if you want to join in this challenge please register as soon as possible which you can do via the blog link. We also need volunteers to help on the day so if you don’t think you can rise to the challenge of cycling 100k or 100 miles, we still need you! You can sign up on the volunteer link on the blog. It is a great opportunity to come and meet fellow club members – my washing up stint back in 2010 has led to making many new friends and having plenty of adventures with the club. Our next planning meeting will be held on Monday 9 June at 10.30.
- Adella currently has samples of clothing so that if you would like some of our new funky club strip please contact her to try for size. There seems to be excitement about a lightweight training jacket which costs £99.60 with a £15 subsidy being provided by the club if this is your first order. We will aim to be ordering the third week in April; we have an order of 10+ which enables us to get a substantial discount, so now is the time to buy if you’re interested. There is a full list of the branded merchandise on offer if you look at the blog post of March 19th.
- Holiday weekend – after a bit of a glitch, we have settled on the weekend of Friday 19th to Monday 22 September for our visit to Cote Ghyll Mill Youth Hostel. The earlier you make your booking, the more likely you are to get your choice of room, or you can book as an individual if you’re willing to share dormitory accommodation. Details are on the blog from February 19th. This is a great opportunity to discover a new area on two wheels with friends.
Finally, a reminder that our runs list is looking a bit thin and we are always looking for more ride leaders. It may be as simple as saying ‘I’m cycling to the coffee stop Wednesday/Sunday – does anyone want to join me?’ You can adopt someone else’s ride and if in doubt please have a chat with one of our current ride leaders – we would all be willing to co-lead a ride with you while you find your way. It can be very rewarding.
If you want to know anything else about the club or what we are doing, my email is above, hone phone number 01768 881066 mobile 07500 564922 and we live at New Inn, Melmerby, Penrith CA10 1HE – just across from the Bakery. Let me know if you’re passing.
Happy April,
Alison
