Wednesday 5 November Ride

The proposed route is only 37 miles long from Canonbie but the full route is quite hilly, c.3500 feet of accent.

Start 10 am at Canonbie just after the Cross Keys pub. The route goes on the B road to Langholm , then over the hill and moors to Newcastleton, a wonderful ride in good weather......

Cafe at the Olive Tree in Newcastleton. Return by climbing up the hill to Bewcastle Cross and back to Canonbie via Penton Bridge. This is less hilly than the road over from Langholm but still more climbing and exposed to weather. With a nice break in The cafe this should be a good way back! Timing approx   cafe by approx 11.50 , then about 2 hours to get back from the cafe.

GPX route   HERE

At present the weather forecast is ok first thing then a bit wet, so I have also put a route GPX for a shorter and less hilly way back from Newcastleton if needed, or if the group fancies going back a quicker way , which would make this a 2 ride. This basically takes the back road on the other side of the river back to Penton Bridge then to Canonbie .

I think that can be decided on the day at the cafe and if another leader offered we can have 2 routes on the go.

Shorter route back Here 28 miles about 2500 ft of ascent. approx 1.75 to 2 hours to the cafe , an hour back.
