Gravel/Mountain Bike Ride around Kielder Water FRI 17th October

 Hi all

Decided to put on a last minute Friday gravel/mountain bike ride to Kielder Water. 

2 options:

1. Meet 9.30am at Newcastleton (car park in the centre of town) and cycle up the road to Kielder Village and then around the lake clockwise (approx 56 miles)

2. Meet 10.45 at Kielder Castle (car park up the hill near the bike shop) and cycle around the lake clockwise.

Cafe stops - Coffee at the Garage/or bike shop in Kielder Village (for those coming from Newcastleton) then there is the Kielder waterside cafe (approx half way round) and the Forest Bar pub and store at Leapish

Should be nice weather in Kielder on Friday and the autumn colours should be good.

Holiday Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st September

  With thanks to Adella, we have identified an option for a holiday at Cote Ghyll Mill Youth Hostel near Osmotherley , east of Northallerton . There looks to be a great choice of road cycling gravelling and MTB nearby.  We are proposing to book the hostel entirely for our use from Thursday 18th September to Sunday 21st September . The property does not do self-catering; we either take B & B or full board including a packed lunch and 2 course evening meal and the full board option is very economical so that is what we propose. The property has 14 bedrooms each with 2, 4 or 6 beds in them and all of them are ensuite. I have worked on the basis of 2 people sharing a room but one room (at least) could be turned into a single-sex dorm style room. They are all bunk beds but 5 of the rooms have a lower bunk which is a double bed. If 2 people are in a room for 4 (or 6) they will both be able to have a lower bunk I have worked out the cost on the basis of 2 people sharing each roo...

Trivets Wednesday 2 July 2025

We had another successful planning meeting on Thursday – thanks to all those who came along. If it isn’t there already, please put the date of 2 July in your diary for our Trivets event starting from Dalston Victory Hall. This is a great opportunity to showcase our lovely area to visitors and the figure of 8 route from Dalston, taking in Mungrisdale in the morning and the Solway coast in the afternoon, does just that. We’ve been running Trivets events at least from 2010 – that’s as far back as Nigel and I go – and even if you aren’t up to the riding, it’s always a great day, meeting like minded cyclists and having fun. We can’t do this without the full participation of the club so we hope you will volunteer to help.
