Challenge Ride in the Cevennes/Ardeche area of Southern France 20-27 September 2025

My close friend came off his bike on a cattle grid at the bottom of Wrynose Pass recently and his injuries will prevent him from going on a planned trip this autumn.  We have been given a few days by the travel company to find someone else before they cancel the place so, if anyone is interested, the full trip details are on the "Marmot Tours" Website or just contact me.  The trip is six days of supported riding with a choice of routes.  Marmot offer transport to and from Marseille Airport but flights need to be booked separately.  I will be driving out for a longer stay in the area.  I know most of the group who are going (about 20 in total but we don't ride together) and they are very welcoming.  It would be great if any EV member would like to go bearing in mind that you would have to put up with sharing a hotel room with me.  If there is any response I will take the first person to commit to definitely wishing to go.

Holiday Thursday 18th to Sunday 21st September

  With thanks to Adella, we have identified an option for a holiday at Cote Ghyll Mill Youth Hostel near Osmotherley , east of Northallerton . There looks to be a great choice of road cycling gravelling and MTB nearby.  We are proposing to book the hostel entirely for our use from Thursday 18th September to Sunday 21st September . The property does not do self-catering; we either take B & B or full board including a packed lunch and 2 course evening meal and the full board option is very economical so that is what we propose. The property has 14 bedrooms each with 2, 4 or 6 beds in them and all of them are ensuite. I have worked on the basis of 2 people sharing a room but one room (at least) could be turned into a single-sex dorm style room. They are all bunk beds but 5 of the rooms have a lower bunk which is a double bed. If 2 people are in a room for 4 (or 6) they will both be able to have a lower bunk I have worked out the cost on the basis of 2 people sharing each roo...

Trivets Wednesday 2 July 2025

We had another successful planning meeting on Thursday – thanks to all those who came along. If it isn’t there already, please put the date of 2 July in your diary for our Trivets event starting from Dalston Victory Hall. This is a great opportunity to showcase our lovely area to visitors and the figure of 8 route from Dalston, taking in Mungrisdale in the morning and the Solway coast in the afternoon, does just that. We’ve been running Trivets events at least from 2010 – that’s as far back as Nigel and I go – and even if you aren’t up to the riding, it’s always a great day, meeting like minded cyclists and having fun. We can’t do this without the full participation of the club so we hope you will volunteer to help.
