E-bike Survey

I received the following email this morning regarding a research project at Leeds University. I also received the link through Martin from one of his climbing buddies. 

I followed the link & it only took 5 minutes to complete the survey. There was also a pdf document attached to the email making the case for reducing carbon emissions by replacing car journeys by ebike. Unfortunately I cannot add this file to the blog, so if you would like to read it, then get in touch & I'll forward a copy to you.

I am involved in a some research work around a project “Sustainable mobility for tourism recovery in rural areas: the contribution of e-bikes”. This is being led by the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds by the same team that published research such as e-bike carbon savings – how much and where?(attached). We put the current project together during lockdown to identify and inform better what needs to be done so that we maximise the benefits of ebike use to help with post-covid recovery for the local area.

We are trying to get to as many ebike users as possible. This email is heading out to 14 shops & hire centres, to cafes and pubs popular with people using ebikes as well as via local clubs and cycling group networks – so I pre-emptively apologise for cross-postings. 

 

Let’s not pretend – ebikes (still) split opinion. However, one of the biggest increases in ebike sales recently in continental Europe is in roadbikes for older road-bikers or those who have had some illness or injury and need a bit of help to keep up. We just don’t have the evidence in the UK – hence why we are interested in club members.

This study has been reviewed and given a favourable opinion by University of Leeds Research Ethics Committee on 13 August 2020, ethics reference AREA 20-007 .
