Holiday at Cote Ghyll Mill Youth Hostel - plan B

As we said in the blog posted 3rd February, we identified what we think is an excellent venue for a club holiday at Cote Ghyll Mill Youth Hostel near Osmotherley, east of Northallerton. There looks to be a great choice of road cycling gravelling and MTB nearby.

As you will have realised, there was insufficient take-up for us to take exclusive use of the Hostel as we suggested in the blog. However, there was quite a bit of interest so we’re now looking at plan B which is a 3-day ‘book yourself’ option Friday to Monday.

I’ve set out the accommodation and prices in detail below. Hostels aren’t what they used to be (expectations require them to be a bit smarter to survive) and each room has its own en-suite facilities which pushes up the price. Prices are bed/room only – no food included as we’re not on the exclusive use booking terms.

There is a 10% discount for 3 nights or more.

If you want the cheapest option it is £40 pppnight in a 4- bedded dormitory. Fri – Monday cost would be £108 with the discount.

The four 2-bedded rooms have one bunk and cost £80 Fri – Sat and £72 Sunday. That way you can choose your room-mate but one of you will have to sleep in the upstairs bed. Or you could just book it for yourself. Cost per room for 3 nights Fri – Monday is £232 less 10% discount = £208.80.

The six 4-bedded rooms have 2 bunks and in 2 of the 6 rooms, the bottom bunk is double-bed sized. If you book for 2 people it means neither of you has to climb the ladder to bed at night. Cost per room for 3 nights is £366 less 10% discount = £329.40.

The 4-bedded rooms are the ones usually used as dormitory accommodation so not all 6 will necessarily be available.

If you want ‘loads of room’ there are 4 rooms with 6 beds, 3 bunks in each room and 3 of the rooms have a double bed as a lower bunk. The cost per room for 3 nights is £510 less 10% discount = £459.

As we aren't aiming for exclusive use there is a bit more flexibility about dates. When you have decided click one of the buttons which will take you to a form and submit to record the dates you can make.

We're looking at:

September, Friday to Monday; 12 - 15, 19 to 22, 26 to 29 and October 3 - 6.

I think we'll end up simply going for the one with the most votes. There isn't huge urgency about this but the sooner we start booking the more rooms will be available and the greater the chance of getting the room of your choice! So please can we ask you to respond within the next couple of weeks - say, by Friday 7 March?

I'm looking forward to it already!

Alison
