For the non MTB'rs, not going on John R's ride, & wanting to ride off the Christmas excess, I will be riding from Dalston 09.30 on Sunday 29th to Upfront Gallery, Unthank. It would be great if anyone else would like to come along. The route is 50 mile, or could be less if needed, & is the same route we took last month.  Hi Folks. We are concerned about the very strong winds forecast for Sunday, and have decided to run these rides on Monday instead, which is a much better forecast. Sadly this will not suit everyone, but better safe than sorry. Anyway the Sundays coffee stop will still take place. So the Monday rides start at Beacon Edge opposite the lay-by, and the plan is for Rosie and I to lead 2 different rides, both going to Lowther for an early lunch, then a loop back to 15 Croft Terrace CA11 7RR, which is just below Beacon Edge for mince pies and mulled wine. Sorry, but I am withdrawing my ride to Appleby on Wednesday though I hope to be at the Hub by car. In the circumstances, I'm unlikely to be putting any rides on in the near future but hopefully the coffee stops will remain popular. Alison 07500 564922

Meet at 9:30 Sunday morning in Dalston for a ride up to Melmerby (22 miles) for brunch. Route HERE   Either join at the start or somewhere along the route. Cross the river at Armathwaite and then onto to Melmerby via Staffield, KO,  Glassonby & Gamblesby. Return to Dalston via Langwathby etc.  Total distance 51 miles. Let me know if you're coming along. The Sowerby Row road has been closed at Nichol Bridge which crosses Nichol Gill (GR396392). Debbie and I call this the Rollercoaster Road and it’s the obvious route from say Raughton Head to Skelton and vice versa. It’s also part of National Cycle Route 7. There is a diversion in place which adds about a mile and takes you South to the sometimes very busy B5305.  I went to investigate and it was very easy to pass the end of a few plastic barriers and shortly after, round the three or four heavy concrete blocks (to stop vehicular traffic) and walk across the short bridge over the gill. Clearly the route of numerous previous cyclists and local walkers. There was no Heras Fencing or anything to suggest imminent danger to life or limb.  Please however see road closure notices below; I would also strongly suggest that any club run avoid this route just in case you’re unfortunate enough to come across the same cyclist-hating local I encountered! Nigel's op on Friday seems to have gone so well that he is planning to come home tomorrow so I think I will not have sufficient spare time to lead Sunday's ride to UpFront and I have withdrawn it from the runs list. We may get there by car... Alison 07500 564922
