CYCLING IN PENRITH

Cumbria County Council is consulting the public on a proposed pedestrianisation of Corney Square, Penrith (nearly opposite Arragons Cycles) and is holding another opportunity to see the plans at Penrith Library betweeen 3.45 and 5.45 p.m. on the 28th November.

I have seen the plans and made a representation (on our club's behalf):
'Absence of provision of cyclists use. Local cyclists and cyclists arriving / cycling through Penrith are likely to see this area as a natural place to stop, rest or leave their bike to use the facilities afforded by the town. Absence of provision of bike stands securing bikes / propping up cycles is likely to inhibit this / take up space by leaving cycles secured to the 'furniture' of the location. It is important that the cycle stands are 'cycle friendly' i.e. not the type that stands the bike confined to a single wheel (risk of damage to rims / some bikes do not fit e.g. disc brakes or smaller wheels ...). Sheffield stands are very suitable (3 are located, discreetly outside Arragons).'
which on re-reading was a little cumbersome! I hope I get the point across.

Please do contribute and let me know your thoughts on the issue.
