Modest Melmerby Meanderings on Wednesday 16 December
Last Tuesday I rode my bike for the first time since September 16th so this will be more of a one-bike than a two-bike ride! The route is simple - a loop from Melmerby to Ousby, Skirwith, Culgaith, Langwathby and back via Winskill, Hunsonby, Glassonby and Gamblesby - just over 18 miles and 657 feet of ascent. We will be leaving Melmerby at 10. The Village Bakery is open from 9.30 if you wish to start with a coffee or return for some lunch; obviously households can't share tables inside but you could have a takeaway or carry a thermos if you wish to have an outdoor chat. You can extend the ride by cycling from home or adding in whatever loop you wish. We won't be passing through Langwathby before 10.45 so you could join us there. The converted horsebox outdoor Saddleback cafe by Langwathby Village Hall serves excellent coffee and snacks most Wednesdays.
Please let us know if you are coming - we can't meet or ride in groups of more than 6 but I'm sure we can separate out if we need to as the route isn't hard to follow. This week's weather is wet most days and Wednesday is no exception, but you can't get too wet in just 18 miles - can you?
