N to Hallbankgate Sunday morning

I’m riding round the loop to Hallbankgate tomorrow Sunday 30th via Alston returning along the fellside. I would welcome company and could meet up in Melmerby at about 0900. Give me a ring if you are interested.

Club Rides for September and October

At the moment it is obviously difficult to prepare and publish a full programme. We will continue to use this blog to publicise rides that members wish to arrange but inevitably this will be at quite short notice. This  link will take you to a very skeletal "Runs List"  in the familiar format which may help you to see what has been added so far. This list is still "active" and runs leaders might still like to enter a ride. If you do add a ride to the list please use the blog in the usual way a day or so before the ride. Please note the post beneath this one as it applies to a ride for this Sunday!

Update for Wednesday 19th August Ride

A variety of people have made contact with me about tomorrow. There was interest in coffee at the Mill Yard cafe at Morland. So as we will leave Frenchfield at 9.30, that means we should make Morland by 10.30 (it opens at 10.00). The tables outside will hopefully suit us fine.  I have phoned the Orton Scar cafe and they have good "take-out" options and outside seating. We should arrive there at about 12.30 if you were thinking of meeting us there. This will be a leisurely ride suited to all. The weather forecast is now looking encouraging so that if this produces more than six takers we will need to split and ride separately and use different tables. Bring masks and sanitiser just in case you need to go inside.

E-bike Survey

I received the following email this morning regarding a research project at Leeds University. I also received the link through Martin from one of his climbing buddies.  I followed the link & it only took 5 minutes to complete the survey. There was also a pdf document attached to the email making the case for reducing carbon emissions by replacing car journeys by ebike. Unfortunately I cannot add this file to the blog, so if you would like to read it, then get in touch & I'll forward a copy to you. Cheers, Bill Hello,   I am involved in a some research work around a project “Sustainable mobility for tourism recovery in rural areas: the contribution of e-bikes”. This is being led by the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds by the same team that published research such as  e-bike carbon savings – how much and where? (attached). We put the current project together during lockdown to identify and inform better what needs to be done so that we maximise the b

Wednesday 19th August: Ride from Frenchfield, Penrith

I have a rough plan to ride south to Orton and return via Shap and Askham. 38 miles only at a reasonable pace and all are welcome (if more than 6 we will have to split into small groups). The exact route could be discussed on the day. We might, for instance, go first to Morland for an outside coffee at the Mill Yard Cafe.

Wednesday Ride from Greystoke 12th August

Good morning folks, I hope that you'll be able to join me for a ride out to Appleby, leaving from Greystoke carpark at 09:30 on Wednesday. I have a couple off routes in mind between 50 & 60 miles, decision will be made on the day depending on what on the group would like to do. I will be taking my own refreshments, but if you prefer not to do this there are plenty of outlets in Appleby and possibly other places depending on which way we go. See you Wednesday Bill
