IMPORTANT UPDATE: Osmotherley Weekender 4th-7th September

Hi all I had an email from Cote Gyhll Hostel in Osmotherley on Friday. They informed me that, next year, they are no longer running the hostel but have converted it to a B&B at £125 per night with double, single and family rooms. Disappointing, as when I booked a couple of weeks ago it was still showing as a hostel available through the YHA. They currently have good availability for that weekend with 5 twins, 2 singles and 4 family rooms left. They are also going to keep the communal kitchen for use of guests which is handy. Gary and I have decided to pay the extra and go for the B&B option as it wasn't much more and the rooms look quite good on the website. (There is also a free sauna available which I hadn't noticed before!) If you want to book the B&B, apartments or campsite, here are their details Tel:01609 883425 www. coteghyll.com As I said before there are other accommodation options in Osmotherley - pubs, airBnB, holiday cottages etc.. Any questions let me ...

3 bike ride Wednesday 19th Nov. - Skiddaw & Derwentwater

The ride will leave Hesket Newmarket car park at 9.30am.   To generate some warmth we will bypass Caldbeck and go up to Fellside.    From there we continue to the outskirts of Keswick via Uldale and Applethwaite.   Then anti-clockwise round Derwentwater through  Portinscale and Grange.    Lunch will provisionally be at Threlkeld.   We can stop for refreshments at other places such as Portinscale or possibly Keswick.    The cafe in Threlkeld is quite expensive.  Wednesday 5 November 2 bike Ride By Jeff November 4, 2025 The route from Greystoke is only 28 miles and takes us west to head over Berrier Hill, to Lamonby, Ellonby, Skelton and Calthwaite to coffee at Potplace {17 miles} returning to Greystoke via Little Blencow.

Wednesday 5 November Ride

The proposed route is only 37 miles long from Canonbie but the full route is quite hilly, c.3500 feet of accent. Start 10 am at Canonbie just after the Cross Keys pub. The route goes on the B road to Langholm , then over the hill and moors to Newcastleton, a wonderful ride in good weather...... Cafe at the Olive Tree in Newcastleton. Return by climbing up the hill to Bewcastle Cross and back to Canonbie via Penton Bridge. This is less hilly than the road over from Langholm but still more climbing and exposed to weather. With a nice break in The cafe this should be a good way back! Timing approx   cafe by approx 11.50 , then about 2 hours to get back from the cafe. GPX route    HERE At present the weather forecast is ok first thing then a bit wet, so I have also put a route GPX for a shorter and less hilly way back from Newcastleton if needed, or if the group fancies going back a quicker way , which would make this a 2 ride. This basically takes the back road on...
