Meet at Greystoke car park at 10am, and ride to the coffee stop at Granny Dowbekins at 11.30. Via, Troubeck, Matterdale End and Watermillock. Return via Temple Sowerby. Phil 07810751189.
Not much to add to the details on the runs list. I will be leaving Langwathby at 10 am to cycle via Culgaith, Temple Sowerby, Lowther/Askham and Celleron to Pooley Bridge for coffee/early lunch at Granny Dowbekins. I'll be cycling back to Langwathby via Penrith. Anyone welcome!
Fell and Rock Club lady living Wigton we know, whose husband recently died, would like to know of a reliable local handyman for various jobs around the house. As many of EV live in that area eg Dalston, any recommendations gratefully received and I will pass on. Thanks.
I'm going to cycle from home in Raughton Head to Moreland for coffee/lunch on Wednesday leaving around 09:30. Let me know if you would like to join me either at the start or somewhere along the route. Suggested joining points at the crossroads in Calthwaite (8 miles - 10:10ish) or Stoneybeck roundabout (13miles - 10:30 or just after). Total distance to Moreland 25 miles. Follow this LINK to probable route. Cheers, Bill 07921 207 045
The Cycle Touring Festival online event will take place between 28th January and 5th February. The festival will consist of a series of zoom sessions on matters touring related. The programme can be found at Cycling Touring Festival.co.uk
Given how treacherous the roads are again this morning coupled with low air temperatures for the next couple of days I am not comfortable with leading tomorrow's ride from Dalston, therefore reluctantly I have made the decision to cancel. Sorry folks, Bill
SUNDAY 2 BIKE RIDE. Cycling tomorrow, Sunday 15th January from Croglin Village Hall at 10 am towards Glassonby, out to Skirwith then doing a little loop to the remote village of Kirkland, Ousby to Melmerby for coffee stop. Back to Croglin via Gamblesby and Renwick. Quiet scenic lanes and Fellside views. Approx 27miles. Weather looking to be dry and sunny, but cold. Hope you can join me, or see you at the coffee stop.
Looking forward to this event on Saturday and I enclose a list of those who have submitted choices and are therefore expected. <LIST> If you think you should be on this list do contact me urgently! Parking is tight in Penrith but I think the free 3hrs in Sainsbury's should be sufficient!
Starting in Langwathby on the green at 10.00 The ride is of about 50 ish miles with a stop at the coffee stop in Lowther at 11.30 ish then returning via Bampton Grange and Shap. The weather looks a bit blustery with showers but we have to take advantage of all opportunities! Hope to see others at Langwathby or Lowther - just think how good you'll feel when you get home cold and wet! OR 'there's no such thing as bad weather just bad clothing!' So put on your good clothing😂 < route >
For those of you who knew David (remember his excellent Wooler based week?), his dementia has sadly gradually worsened until no longer safe and able to live by himself in Penrith. Daughter Jan is in the process of moving him to a care home close to her in the north east. David's partner Maria living in Croydon and now 90 is still incredibly fit and active with the local Ramblers and will visit David in his care home from time to time.
As Granny Dowbekins was well supported on Wednesday, I have spoken to Mike - runs list co-ordinator - and agreed we go for Melmerby Village Bakery for the cafe/coffee stop tomorrow. I will be doing my ride to Granny Dowbekins on Sunday 29 January instead and will amend the runs list shortly. Tomorrow I will be doing two loops of Melmerby, one before and one after coffee, leaving from outside the Bakery at 10 am. Mileage of each loop will be approximately 10/15 miles - decision to be taken on who turns up and where they have come from! DON'T FORGET TO SIGN UP FOR YOUR CHOICES FOR THE POST-CHRISTMAS LUNCH ON THE SEPARATE BLOG!

Why, oh why does the weather forecast make it so difficult to fulfill your New Year's Resolutions...? I rarely go to Granny Dowbekins because it is a Wednesday cafe stop and I usually ride on Sundays so I thought I would make this the target for this Sunday's ride. I plan to leave Langwathby at 10 and go via Culgaith, Temple Sowerby, passing Abbot Lodge and Lowther to arrive at Pooley Bridge probably nearer 12 than 11.30. As a reward for getting out, the return route will be shorter via Penrith. If no-one joins me, I will understand...
The Upfront Gallery website shows it is closed until Jan 31 st and is therefore no good as an alternative for Acorn Bank that is also closed in the winter. Similarly, the next nearest venue at the Pot Place Plumpton does not open until 9 th Jan. Any thoughts for another venue ?.
Anyone interested in a ride around the trails at Whinlatter this Friday, then we are meeting at the free parking at Swinside Houses on the west side of the pass at GR 192245. Blue route first and then the reds. Lunch at the cafe, or bring your own. Lots of easy sections and some technical bits which can be walked. All welcome. Phil 07810751189
Happy New Year everyone! Given that Pot Place is closed on Wednesday, I'm planning to ride to Granny D's in Pooley Bridge as an alternative. I'll be leaving home in Raughton Head around 9:30 and going via Skelton, Greystoke (10:30ish) and Bennet Head. Let me know if you'd like to join me either at start (or somewhere along the route).
