Sunday 30th January

Hi Start at Tebay Sports Field at 10.00am. It is very windy at the moment. Forecast is for lighter wind tomorrow morning but getting stronger later in day, so be prepared for wind. However ice looks unlikely. In view of it being best to move on earlier in day I propose one stop at Sedbergh probably a late lunch. May stop for road side break in Mallerstang and as I don't know what will be open in Sedbergh later on Sunday it could be best to bring some refreshments. Phone tex 07810 344 838.   David

2 rides this Wednesday 26th

Rosie is going to ride from Beacon Edge cemetery lay-by, Penrith, leaving 10am, to the Morland coffee stop, via Langwathby and Temple Sowerby. 2 bike ride, about 17 miles to Morland and 10 back. Text 07818241833 if you intend to join her. I am cycling from Greystoke village car park, leaving 10am, and heading to Ullswater and the Kirkstone Pass. Then Ambleside, Grasmere and Dunmail Raise to Threlkeld. Probably 1 stop in Ambleside for coffee/early lunch. 3 bike ride, 50 miles and 4500ft of climbing. Text 07810751189 if you are coming along. Weather looks dry but breezy.

3 Bike Ride - 10:00 hours, Sunday 23rd January 2022

Starting at 10:00 from The Green, Wetheral (plenty of on road parking) going to Bewcastle via Warwick Bridge, Carlisle airport, Laversdale, Hethersgill, Roadhead & Blackpool Gate. After a quick break at Bewcastle onto Askerton, Birdoswald (late coffee/lunch break), Lanercost, Brampton, Hayton & Great Corby back to Wetheral (a ride from Wetheral wouldn't be the same without a trip over the 'bone shaking' viaduct 😁). 48 mile round trip with under 3000 feet climbing. Because of the remoteness of the northern part of the route there are no cafes or shops until Birdoswald at 34 mile. So, if anyone joins me, please BYO & we will have a quick stop at Bewcastle. There is a 'honesty box' at Bewcastle with cakes, biscuits etc if required. Correct money required - NO CHANGE given. Route & GPX file  >> HERE <<    Text or WhatsApp 07855534727 if you fancy joining me. Cheers, John H

Let me know text or WhatsApp if you intend coming 07711 842885 the route is shown below and GPX link is here

Two-bike ride Sunday 16 January

To coincide with Melmerby Village Bakery being the coffee stop, I am planning 2 loops from the village. The first is a repeat of the route a few of us did 2 weeks ago in the afternoon, going towards Renwick with a lovely downhill into Kirkoswald and a few hills on the way back - just under 13.5 miles. After coffee we will take the fellside route south beyond Milburn, swooping down into Kirkby Thore and back via Newbiggin - 18.5 miles. Feel free to join us for either or both or just for the coffee. Alison

Tri-Vets Zoom Meeting Monday 19:00

2022 is Tri-Vets year. To kick off the planning for this event it is planned to have a ZOOM meeting on Monday evening to gauge interest and get ideas for a format. If you do not know about Tri-Vets then this  LINK provides a far better description than I could give within this blog. I will send an email to all our members with a ZOOM link in next day or 2. Cheers, Bill

John R’s MTB Ride to the Red Route at Newcastleton Friday 14th Jan 2022

Bad news I am afraid; the MTB Trails at Newcastleton are closed due to the last Storm blowing large numbers of trees over and blocking the trails. I went to recce the route today and saw for myself the extent of the damage caused by wind low. These trails will not be open for a very long time.  Rather than cancelling the ride, I will ride from the Swimming Pool at Askham at 1000hrs and cycle round the Lowther Bridleways and thence to Howtown and Martindale, before returning either by road to Askham Fell. Please text me to let me know if you are able to join me and bring something to eat as the Lowther Cafe may not be open.  Regards. John

Ride from Dalston to Silloth Wednesday 12th January 2022

With highs of 8°c & sunshine forecast, plus the 'longer' days, what better than a ride to the seaside. Starting at Dalston going via Wigton, Lessonhall & Abbeytown to Silloth. Return Skinburness, Newton Arlosh, Kirkbride & Orton Grange. A 50 mile flattish route, with one refreshment stop at Silloth, at a steady pace. 2 bike ride from Beacon Edge this wednesday

Because of the very cold conditions please phone or text Rosie on 07818241833 after 9am if you intend to join the ride. If the roads look very icy the ride will be cancelled.

Ride from Dalston on Wednesday

Meet at 10am in car park opposite the Coop. A one stop ride of about 45miles. Early lunch after 18 miles at the Pot Place in Plumpton.  Cheers, Bill 07921 297 045

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I wish everyone a happy new year and sincerely hope that we manage to find the right balance of staying safe and getting on with our lives. I would like to thank all of our runs leaders who have been publishing runs and leading rides around our beautiful county. The rolling runs list is looking a little empty at the moment - I think this is probably people waiting to see what the weather is going to be like before committing. The days are starting to lengthen again so let's get cycling! I have a couple of dates for your diary. 1)  Monday 17th January (19:00 hrs).  2022 is Tri-Vets year so we will have a ZOOM meeting on  to gauge interest & kick off planning. I will email log in details nearer the time. 2) Saturday 9th April (12:30) in Langwathby Village Hall. The club year end is now 31st March, so hopefully we will be able to have a physical AGM after a 2 year gap. More details nearer the time. Cheers, Bill
