An opportunity to support a pop-up cafe in aid of funds for the village institute with coffee and cake - what's not to like? Eating cake is almost a public duty! I will be leaving Langwathby at 9.30 and cycling a pretty direct route via Temple Sowerby and Kings Meaburn, possibly returning via Morland. Familiar roads, less familiar venue, never dull. Sorry for the late notice; I intend to leave Langwathby at 9.30 and follow at least part of the route from my Dufton ride last Sunday so sorry about any repetition! Up past the Feed Mill, to Skirwith, Blencarn and Milburn then down that fabulous hill into Kirkby Thore and thence to Acorn Bank where I think we're likely to arrive by 10.45. For those not feeling up to tackling Tan Hill and Buttertubs with Mike, I will be leading a gentle ride from Langwathby village green via Salkeld Dykes and by-passing Lazonby to cross the A6, through Calthwaite to coffee at the Pot Place. This is the scene of my spill with Rosie so I will be taking extra care to avoid pot holes. The most direct return route is only 7.2 miles but I may extend this depending on weather and the mood of the group.  I would enjoy company... Alison 07500 564922

Sorry for the late notice - Nigel and I seem to have been a bit clumsy falling off our bikes recently so I was uncertain whether we would be out... Progress is good and the decision has been made to cycle so I'm inviting anyone who wishes to join me at Langwathby, departing at the later time of 10 am as it should only take us an hour to get to the Post Box at Dufton. Our route will be up to Skirwith and along the higher fellside roads, returning via the lower fellside road through Kirkby Thore and Temple Sowerby without, I think, retracing any of our route out! The usual warning - I am always slow, probably compounded by not cycling much recently. Hope to see a few of you - it's been a long time! Alison

Eden Valley members are invited to join Cycling SW Scotland members for a 102 mile ride from Annan this coming Sunday 23rd June.    The ride will start at 8.30am from the War Memorial on Annan Main Street opposite the police station. The route will be towards Lockerbie, then through Millhousebridge to a refreshment stop at the mountain bike centre in Ae village (25 miles). We then go up to Loch Ettrick then for lunch in Thornhill or Penpont (approx 40 miles).   The route continues to Monaive via Tynron and eventually we arrive at Corsock followed by Crocketford, Shawhead and Dumfries.    After that the ride goes along the coast road through Glencaple and Powfoot back to Annan.   Most of the route is gently undulating.   After Monaive there will be few refreshment stops so riders are advised to bring food & drink with them or replenish en route beforehand.    There is a cafe at Kilnford Barns, Dumfries but it may be closed by the time we get there. 65 mile ride round the Solway from Dalston. Taking in Abbeytown, Silloth, Bowness on Solway & Brugh by Sands. A nice easy 65 miles on quiet, flattish roads. Stopping in Silloth for refreshments (26 miles, so if you might need something before byo) & possibly Bowness (50 miles). To tie in with the coffee stop at Mosedale meeting house I am starting the ride from Dalston so should be easy for many! The route is here and after Mosedale we will be going round Skiddaw by a slightly different route from usual. There will be the opportunity to stop for lunch at Ulldale if that is the group decision (Very appropriately democratic?!) then return to Dalston over Faulds Brow.  Sorry Phil is injured. I am leaving Melmerby at 0930 to go as directly as possible to Maulds Meaburn (Temple Sowerby, Kings Meaburn). Looks like we best have cash for coffees etc. Ride c 15 miles. Going on to Crosby Ravensworth, Shap, (possibly Rosgill OR Concrete Road), Bampton, Askham, Lowther caravan park, Brougham Castle, Carleton, Beacon Edge, A686 to turn to Edenhall, through to Langwathby, Winskill, A686 Melmerby.      Maulds Meaburn Rosgill Bampton Melmerby = 29 miles OR Maulds Meaburn Concrete Road Bampton Melmerby = 32 miles So somewhere around 45 miles(!?) A reminder that our new summer rota starts this Wednesday! From the Maulds Meaburn Village Institute Facebook page:   June already! It’s coffee morning this Wednesday, 5th June at Maulds Meaburn Village Institute. Come and join us for a cuppa and some home baked goodies between 10.30am and midday. It’s a good excuse to have a catch up with your friends and neighbours. All we ask for is a donation in the pot. (The full rota for the summer is shown on a post on 2nd June below)

The new rota for our cafe stops is shown in red on the right. It also appears on the current Runs List on our web site. We usually avoid Pooley Bridge in the summer and have added some new venues in cafes which are only open in the summer. If you have any comments, please let a committee member know.  </
