Alternate ride - Wednesday 22 Feb

I am going to ride a route from Culgaith to Sedbergh and back on Wednesday and anyone interested in joining me for the whole or part of the ride would be very welcome. I'm starting at 0900 from Culgaith and would pass through Orton or Tebay at 10 ish ( Route here ) The route is about 100km in total but starting in Orton or Tebay is 50km or so. Let me know if you might be picking up the route at some point. Probably find a coffee in Sedbergh but bring supplies! Geoff 07711842885

Wednesday's 2 bike ride 22 February

We'll be taking the usual route to Morland from Langwathby/Culgaith/Temple Sowerby - it should take us around an hour so there's no point in setting off too early so we won't leave Langwathby until 10.15. My plan is to go on to Appleby along route 71 and have lunch at Appleby Hub returning the east side of the river (Long Marton/Newbiggin/Culgaith) to Langwathby. I had planned a route to Shap but decided that was too ambitious at this time of year. Given my level of fitness (and lack of e-assistance) the pace will be slower than moderate - modest? I will try to check that the cafes are open before we set off. All welcome - as long as you don't mind going sloooowly (or waiting at the top of hills!) Alison

Potholes

I received this letter from Ellis Butcher, I have sent a general reply but it would be good if there are those out there who could message/call him with particular details. Hello, I am a reporter for the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald, Penrith, and The Keswick Reminder. I am doing a feature about the impact of local potholes on road users. Apparently, this winter has created a perfect storm for the creation of pot holes with bouts of prolonged cold weather followed by very damp weather. I have accounts from a motorcyclist and a car driver, but not a cyclist. I wondered as a cycling group if I might arrange a chat with someone please about how they regard the roads around here and any account of damage to bikes or even injuries to cyclists, or whether there are places or potholes to avoid? Perhaps your members may have taken photos of really bad potholes that I might use? Could you give me a call or drop me a line if this is possible please. Kind regards Ellis Butcher Re
