The attached flyer is for a Craft fair in Eaglesfield Village Hall on Saturday May 7th at  10 am to 3pm.  There is a raffle, refreshments, paintings, prints and various craft  stalls.  Sue Cumella my late  wife instigated and organized it with Sue Holmes who has a dog  from Canine Partners.   Sue C had to relinquish her involvement at a late stage due to  illness. This last Tuesday April 19th on a lovely summer day at home with her family she  left us. Paul Cumella

Sue Cumella - Sad News

I have recently received word from Paul Cumella that his wife Sue after a short illness passed away at home in the care of her family on Tuesday 19th April. Paul and Sue have been staunch members of the Eden Valley group for as long as I can remember and for a time Paul was Secretary of the Club.  Paul has asked that I inform those ‘older’ members of his loss I am sure some will wish to make contact direct but I will let you know further details as I find out. re-post: Sunday 24th April 2 bike ride

Just in case you missed it, and I did post very early! Ice cream opportunity at finish.... Already have quite a few takers.... Note 10.00 start from Langholm Townhead car park by the river. North West to cross the river at Bentpath then back over at Westerkirk Mains for Balliehill and Castle O'er to Eskdalemuir and lunch at Eskdalemuir Community Hub (open for snacks, soup, etc. or BYO) then return via Sandyford, Boreland and Paddockhole. I plan to contact the Hub later this week with a rough idea of numbers for at least coffee, so an early reply would be helpful - though obviously not a commitment 😊. 40 miles, quiet roads. Please TEXT if you'd like to join us. Gill S 07437 217187

Good Friday Coffee morning on 15 April 2022 10 - 12.30 to raise money for Jigsaw

CJ has decided that if you cycle to the coffee morning on Friday he will award points! And as if that wasn't incentive enough, there is an amazing list of raffle prizes to be won from a Microlight flight to a £20 voucher at Granny Dowbekins. My friend is raising money for the Jigsaw Children's Hospice because of the amazing support she was given bringing up her son who sadly died in 2020 aged 10. This is a fantastic charity and it would be great if you live near enough to come along. Alison

RE: AONB AND NATIONAL PARKS GOVERNMENT CONSULTATION

The Government have issued a consultation paper on proposals for management of the above. The consultation period ends on the 19 th April. Cycling UK has prepared its Response (the full response is not that long). I find myself in agreement with its (comprehensive, I think) submission. See https://www.cyclinguk.org/article/more-cycling-and-less-traffic-englands-national-parks . Areas covered include making National Parks and AONB more publicly accessible / management of traffic (e.g. speed limits on minor rural roads) / extension of Bridleways (Cumbria is better served than many parts of the country) / off road mechanical vehicles’ use (complex area – ban somewhere creates problems elsewhere ....) / extension of Authorities’ powers to make byelaws (resistance to extension without evidenced need) / duplication by new legislation of existing (albeit little used) legislation...... (and other matters) Rather than repeat Cycling UK’s response I would propose to endorse

Ride from Dalston on Wednesday 6th April

Leave Dalston for elevenses at the Pot Place, Plumpton. Then onto Caldbeck for lunch and return to Dalston via Westward and Curthwaite. GPX file  here .  About 40 miles at a moderate pace. I was thinking of doing a route following the intended Tri-Vets 100k course but I will put this on at a later date. Please text or WhatsApp 07906896503. It would help the Pot Place if you would let me know even if you are just meeting us for coffee. They find it helpful to know numbers in advance.
