Rides this wednesday 31st March

Hello all. Both rides start from Beacon Edge cemetery lay-by, Penrith at 10am. Rosie will lead a 2 bike ride down the Lyvennet valley to Crosby Ravensworth for a BYO lunch at about 12 noon. Return through Morland perhaps stopping at the cafe for a takeaway coffee. If there are more than 6 Mike has offered to lead a second group following the same route. Phil will lead a 3 bike ride to Orton via Shap. Possible  coffee/roll at the Orton village shop. Probably best to take something incase. We will then ride back to Penrith via Sunbiggin Tarn. Hope to see lots of you out for our first chance of a group ride in a long time.

Resumption of Club Rides

The government's roadmap out of lockdown allows for groups of up to 6 people to meet outside again which means that we can resume group rides - yippee! Also organised sports can restart, which will not be subjected to the rule of six gathering limit. Cycling UK's advice to clubs is to restrict group rides to a maximum of 15 people, however they are advising that this should be an absolute maximum and it is not a target figure. The size of the group will be decided in advance by the Ride Leader. We would suggest that people who want to go on group rides should contact the Ride Leader before hand to make sure there is space on the ride. It may be necessary to split up into 2 groups. The other issue with the resumption of group rides is cafe stops. Generally speaking the cafes that are currently open are only open for take away and it will stay like this until 16th April. So for the time being it is not practical (or realistic) for a large group to turn up at a cafe and meet up wi

Cafes

We are hoping to share ideas about potential cafe meets on Wednesdays and Sundays. We recognise that we need to be flexible as the situation changes but feel that our coffee meets are really important in getting things going again. I have set up a WhatsApp group so that we can share our knowledge and then hopefully by April we can start to blog cafe meets. Eventually, of course, we hope to publish the full quarterly Runs List with a cafe rota. But the present situation requires a more ad hoc solution.  If you have ideas and information about cafes and would like to be included in this WhatsApp group please let me know. It's open to all members.

Runs list.....things looking up.....so have a look

We are promoting a "rolling runs list" as the Covid situation continues to improve. You will see that many of our excellent leaders have already put on a number of rides from the very end of March (29th March is when the government "Stay at home rule" ends). This list will hopefully continue to develop so please keep your eye out and refer to the list on our  web site Remember to check this blog too a day or so before the ride. If you would like to add a ride please let me know if you are not sure how to go about it. Our registered ride leaders have a link to enable them to add rides.
