65 mile ride, 09:30 hours Wednesday 25th May 2022, from the free car park at the intersection of Central Avenue & Union Street, Gretna, D&G, DG16 5AH.  To Gretna Green, Kirkpatrick Fleming & Ecclefechan (love that name 😁). Image
To support this very worthwhile event, I will be offering a (gentle) ride leaving Melmerby around 9.30 and doing 13.2 miles to Temple Sowerby along the fellside. After a big breakfast, I can't cycle far so it will be the direct route home! Total for me is 22 miles but you can extend/make your own ride as you please. Hope a few of you will join me, if not for the ride, at least for the brunch!! Alison

"Beryl", Theatre by the Lake, Keswick

"Beryl" By Maxine Peake Theatre by the Lake, Keswick Tue 24 – Sat 28 May | 7.30pm; with 2pm matinee on Wed & Fri Beryl Burton: quite possibly the most successful woman you’ve never heard of. As a child, doctors told Beryl that she could never take part in strenuous activities due to a heart condition. When she met future husband Charlie and he introduced her to the local cycling club, her life changed forever. Proving that she could do anything she put her mind to, Beryl went on to become the greatest woman on two wheels, dominating the sport in the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s: five times world-pursuit champion, thirteen times national champion, twice road-racing world champion, twelve times national champion, British record-holder, world-record holder, MBE and OBE. Sometimes it’s the stories that are true that are the most unbelievable. Claire and I saw a production of this play three years ago and can highly recommend it, even though I may be slightly biased as Beryl comes from

3 Bike Sunday

You are most welcome to join me on a ride up to Melmerby on Sunday morning. Start at Dalston 09:30 - approximately 24 miles to Melmerby and 50 miles for round trip.  Text 07921 297 045 Cheers, Bill

2 bike ride Sunday 15th May

2 bike ride from Croglin Village Hall Car Park on Sunday 15th May. Meeting at 9.30am. Approx 34 miles with a half way break at Melmerby village Bakery. Travelling through some of the Eden Valley and Fellside.

3bike ride Wednesday 11 May

For a change I am suggesting Kirkby Lonsdale starting at Devil's Bridge. The route is quite hilly to start with but we will take it steady and the second half is merely lumpy! 73km and 1000m of ascent. LINK to route. We visit Barbondale to reach Dent then via Kingdale to Ingleton, Clapham, Keasdon, Wray and back to KL. Lunch at Ingleton or Clapham and pos. ice cream at Wray. A grand day out - I hope. This is just the job if you intend doing the Sportive on Saturday - call it a 'Recharger' to get you up and going! Text: 07711 842885 Let me know if you are coming asap Note starting 0945 to give a bit more time to get there!

Wednesday Ride from Dalston

This a route checking ride for the afternoon loop of the 100mile Tri-Vets ride. Leaving Dalston at 09:30 it is 51 miles with one stop at Bowness on Solway. I tried this route in the winter and was thwarted by floods and road closures, so I'm hoping for better luck this time. Although the ride is on the list as a 3 bike ride, the pace will be moderated to suit anyone that cares to join - so please come along and join us. This LINK will give you a GPX file of the route for your Garmin. Cheers, Bill 07921 297 045
