Round Skiddaw Sunday 30th May

Hi,  Sunday's ride is round the back of Skiddaw following this route: https://www.cyclinguk.org/route/back-o-skiddaw-loop-lake-district-cicerone-publishing  but starting and finishing at Greystoke car park ( 9.30am start) which will make it around 40 miles. I haven't done all of this route before, but I suspect it's fairly hilly, given the bits I have done :) . This is 2 bike pace , so fairly relaxed and sociable, whilst making progress. All welcome of course, but  please be aware if you are on an e-bike it is likely you will be waiting at the top of the hills for the rest of us and when we get there we will need recovery time,   so extra layers might be extra important for you,  given there has been little evidence of summer lately. Please bring food/drink for 40 miles - we could divert to Caldbeck ( Priest Mill) for coffee but that's fairly early on, we could also have a late stop in Keswick before the final climb(s) home, but I'll probably temperature test those

26 May cycle from Dalston to Allonby

Hi folks, my plan is to leave Dalston car park at 9.30 am heading out on a round trip to Allonby and back to Dalston.  Beautiful, mainly flat ride stopping  once for our coffee/lunch (or the best ice cream) at Allonby. There is a small cafe in Allonby but best BYO just in case.  Thanks to those who have been in touch and if anyone else fancies joining us for a great ride text me on 07484 877682.

2 Bike Ride on Wednesday 19th May

Starting at 9.30 from Frenchfield, Penrith. This is a moderately paced ride of about 40 miles. Out via the Stricklands to Shap, along the concrete road to the head of Haweswater and return via Askham. There may be a chance for a coffee or something at Shap or the Haweswater Hotel but basically BYO is advised. Text 07906 896503 if you plan to join us. GPX Link

Cafe Stops

The Rolling Runs List  (Link)   on our website now includes proposed cafe stops for the rest of May and for June. We do hope you can ride out to them and enjoy good company. Of course we must stick to current guidelines and the rule of six will apply as such cafe stops are not strictly speaking an "organised activity". The list has been done quite quickly so there may be problems we've overlooked. It's not set in stone so helpful comments are welcome. On the list you will see that we have programmed in a " Club Summer Solstice Picnic" for Wednesday 23rd June at Long Meg.    Details of timing etc to follow.

Interesting History via Les

Here's a potential bit of interest for especially the 'old timers' eg Parker! Recent new member Phil Charlson of our local Cumbria Classic Car Club (I'm Membership Sec & Treasurer) has interesting  cycling history and happy for this to be published verbatim on our blog. I was a Bolton Clarion man, joined at 12 and had to sign a pledge never to mention the CTC. We did once play the local CTC group (football) and I got kicked black and blue, being a lightweight 14 at the time. Dad had strong links with the Clarion too and his St Helen’s road shop was a social meeting place on Saturday mornings, could be an inconvenience at times. He also had ties with the Leigh Premier Road Club which I joined in the mid 70’s after after the Clarion in Bolton sadly ceased to exist. Dad was best known as a ‘Lightweight’ dealer and one of the very best wheel builders in Lancashire. Of course I thought I was just as good! He allowed me to put spokes in hubs at 11 and I was building comple

YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU

Since 31st March when lockdown rules were relaxed enough to allow the resumption of group riding we have recorded 19 led rides & 3 informal coffee stop rides  . The rides were led by 12 of our leaders and there's been a total of 108 attendees. A good start! It is planned to continue with the "Rolling Runs List" for the next few weeks before returning to the quarterly Runs Lists again from the beginning of July, however the Rolling Runs List is looking quite empty at the moment, so it would be good if some of you could fill in the gaps. Cheers, Bill
