Wednesday 30th September: Ride from Hesket Newmarket

Image
Join me for a ride starting at Hesket Newmarket at 9.30. It's only about 40 miles at a gentle pace around the northern fells and Derwentwater. Lovely scenery guaranteed. I'll have a packed lunch but we could wing the odd cafe if anyone would like.  If you don't fancy this, remember that we have suggested the Pot Place at Plumpton as a cafe stop on Wednesdays (and Lowther Castle on Sundays).

Wednesday (23rd Sep) Ride

Come and join me for a ride of 50 to 55 miles around the Solway plain leaving from Dalston car park at 09:30 on Wednesday. The weather forecast is good and we should have a tail wind around Anthorn. Bring  your own refreshments for a picnic somewhere along the route. Bill

Ian B's Birthday card

Image
This is Ian’s birthday card from his son. The Grape has moved into their family folk lore and stems from a time many years ago when one winter ride the EV were huddled in a café  eating lunch and someone asked where Ian was. I replied “outside sucking on a grape”. This caused much amusement, as Ian was noted for being a frugal eater and usually had a healthy snack with him while we were all in the café eating naughty dinners. I am posting this because I think the card is very witty and also I like caricature of Ian. I hope you all enjoy it too.

Wednesday 16 September 3 Bike run

Hi  Wednesday 16th Sept ride starts at 9.30am at The Sands, Brampton. There is roadside parking around the Sands or up the adjacent old main road. The plan is coffee at Longtown  (BYO). Lunch at Bewcastle approx(BYO). Distance about 55miles. David H

Runs List

As you realise, details of rides are posted on this blog. There is also a skeleton Runs List      http://www.edenvalleyctc.org.uk/runl.html  on our web site. Geoff has set this up so that it will show any additions that are subsequently added. However, you must refresh the page to see the latest situation.  Please remember that cafe stops at Lowther (Sundays) and the Pot Place (Wednesdays) are being trialled. Seven attended on Sunday in the fresh air (on two tables of course!).

Cafe Stops and other stuff

Several people have asked about adding cafe stops onto the runs list, so for a trial period it has been suggested that we use Lowther Castle for meeting up on Sundays & the Pot Place at Plumpton for meeting up on Wednesdays. Both of these venues have plenty of space and  and should be able accommodate reasonable numbers - outside if necessary. Maximum group size is restricted to 6 (according to the guidelines (or is it the law?)) so if lots of people turn up please be prepared to split up onto different tables as required. The AGM is due on October 24th in Langwathby Village Hall. Obviously in the current climate with maximum number of 6 attendees this cannot happen - alternative arrangements will publicised in due course - watch this space! Cheers, Bill

Two Rides to choose from on Wednesday September 9th

In addition to this post, please look at Geoff's post below. We have a choice which we hope will satisfy demand! Thanks Geoff and Ernest. Ernest's suggestion: From Greystoke at 9.30. The route will be at an easy pace ("2 bike" grade) and go via Pooley Bridge to Lowther Castle for coffee in the courtyard. There are a number of options for the ride across to Langwathby and over the fells to a possible second stop at Plumpton. The total distance should be about 40 miles.

Ride from Greystoke Wednesday 9th Sep

The plan is to ride out via Aspatria to Allonby (pos ice creams!) but please bring food, drink etc for pic-nic. As usual we may need to split into groups but all welcome. From Allonby back via Cockermouth and Whinlatter Threlkeld and Berrier. Stats 67mi (107km) 1600m of ascent
